Welcome to the WInSAR Data Archive at UNAVCO.
WInSAR is a consortium of universities and research laboratories established by a group of practicing scientists and engineers to facilitate collaboration in, and advancement of, Earth science research using radar remote sensing. WInSAR helps coordinate requests for data acquisition and for data purchase, aiding individual investigators by simplifying interactions with data providers and with government agencies funding science, including NASA, NSF, and the USGS.
WInSAR does not review or fund research, but facilitates both collaboration among scientists and also access to radar data. WInSAR continues the tradition of the scientific method by encouraging and promoting reproduction, verification, and extension of scientific results.
Be sure to see the GeoEarthscope SAR Archive at UNAVCO.
You can find the minutes of recent meetings and reports about WInSAR in the
documents page.
WInSAR voted to make UNAVCO their new host institution in early 2006. The
transition period is expected to last through 2007.
WInSAR's overall mission,
organizational structure and research activities will not change with the transfer
of administration from SCEC/USC to UNAVCO. UNAVCO's primary role is
to provide administrative and logistical support for WInSAR activities such as
finance management and data management. The WInSAR Executive Committee
and UNAVCO staff are currently in the process of establishing WInSAR's new
administrative framework at UNAVCO.
| Access to WInSAR Resources
|
Institutions with a basic research mission are eligible to join WInSAR.
To download archived radar data you must belong to a WinSAR member institution and register
with the WInSAR Consortium.
To register as a data user, see the application page.
Registration is not needed to search for data files.
Individuals or groups using radar data for commercial or operational purposes are not eligible. Access to WInSAR data files
is strictly limited to registered WInSAR users.
See the Help and Instructions about
searching for and downloading data from the WInSAR archives.
A stand-alone fast download client is available for
registered members who want to download datafiles at a faster rate than standard browsers allow.
| Funding for WInSAR operations and data acqusitions provided by NASA, USGS, and NSF. A portion of our archived data was provided at low cost by ESA. |
